PumpkinSupply.com will close on August 31st. It has been a labor of love for me these past two seasons. I have enjoyed getting to know many growers and vendors and also researching and learning about the products we’ve carried. When I started PumpkinSupply.com, I was self-employed and my schedule allowed for me to spend more time working on the growing supply business. But since then I’ve taken a position at the Nebraska Medical Center and my ability to balance work, family, pumpkin growing, and PumpkinSupply.com has become ever increasingly difficult. This spring has been particularly challenging. I’m anxious to spend more time in the patch and interacting in the grower community once again. I hope that someone out there with the time, energy, and perhaps a career that more easily integrates with selling growing supplies (than information technology consulting does) will carry on this service to the growing community. Many thanks for your patronage and support!

Yikes! I'd better stock up before you close.

This is sad news indeed. Your business will be missed.

That's too bad. Pumpkinsupply.com had a good run and was helpful to me and many other growers.

Thanks,
Jamie

Once, in awhile, and not very often, one meets a vendor who is a gentleman, with people friendly personal attitudes, and reasonable knowledge, of what they peddle. Such was Matt.

I wish you well, in your new position.

I tried helping Pumpkin Supply with order fulfillment back when Brent founded it & I can more than vouch for Matt.

I sell all of this stuff & would love to pick it up. But breaking full cases, buying little boxes, & repackaging products like this is not only time consuming & expensive, it is also sometimes illegal. UPS doesn't want to handle most pesticides. The USPS won't handle any liquid pesticides unless you lie. It's a real PIA.

I do it now for CT GS&PGA club members & believe me I hate doing it. If all the orders came in December & January it wouldn't be too bad. But when the phone rings in April & May I just know that the caller won't be real happy with the results. We do our best but that isn't always good enough The wharehouse boys are already working 60 hour weeks handling 20-60 tons a day & here I come wanting them to ship a quart of Talstar or a 2 oz bottle of Merit to a grower. They just laugh.

Outside of a flat $25 handling fee (BEFORE the real shipping cost) I see no way to cover expenses & still make a fair profit. Plus just one dumb accident could soak up several years of profit & maybe more.

I'll speak with my companies owner about setting up a "repackaging & shipping for small order fulfillment facility" over the winter but I doubt that the sales would justify the expense when most co-ops are selling at wholesale cost to anyone who can find the door & walk in off the street.

Sorry to hear your closing up shop, but understand your situation. It takes a lot of commitment to run a business like PS.com & do your regular daily work as well. If I was living in the US I would consider taking over where you left off, but due to border crossing problems, I'd never be able to send any fertilizers & pestcides to the US & that's where 95% of the business is. I'd like to wish you all the best in the future & hope to see you in Niagara again soon. Take care & good luck.

Matt,

Where can we get the Alga Core when you close? I have plenty yet, but when I run out?

You were very courteous to me in my few purchases, and business was done with great communication. I am sure this will help you be successful in your new job. Good luck.
