The Dept of Ag just issued an alert that the spores of a potent strain of downy mildew has been carried North from the South on the storm winds we've been having. And is already devastating the cucumber crop, with squash and pumpkin at high risk. Fungicides work as a preventive, but the only things known to pentrate the cell walls and actually kill the fungus once it appears is Armicarb and Remendy, both potassium bicarbonate and both very pricey. Or simple sodium bicarbonate, baking soad such as Arm and Hammer. Mixed at a rate of 4tsp per gallon and enhanced by adding a wetting agent or oil.
