As I begin planning for next years patch one big question comes to mind. In the past it was always accepted that one AG plant needed 1000 sq. feet to grow a big pumpkin. I have been reading "How to Grow Giant Pumpkins III" and Don Langevin writes that the thinking on that theory is changing. According to the book many "heavy hitters" now concur that smaller plants may actually be better. The book now advocates growing areas of 400 to 500 sq. feet per plant is more than sufficient and some growers are experimenting with less.
How do some of you more experienced growers feel about this new train of thought? Pap and Tremor, would love to hear your input on this.
Do you guys feel that 22' of main vine length is sufficient if you have 10' to 12' first secondaries?
Thanks, Mark
