I have a blossom end nob that looks like it's getting soft & shrivelling up. The pumpkin is growing well. I put a paste of Benomyl on the blossom & stem ends to help ward off any diseases or funguses. Will this eventually kill the pumpkin or will it survive okay without the nob. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would get a fan on it to keep it dry.

i had that happen to me last year on a pumpkin at about basketball size. cut it off flush with the fruit, and slapped some captan on it. it became my big one.

Phil, That started happening to my biggest last year, right after culling to the last fruit. Very scary! The blossom nob wilting away almost reminded me of a fuse burning. I figured once it got to the fruit, the whole thing would go soft. I hit it with fungicides and a mild bleach solution and it dried up nicely. Like Steve says, excellent idea getting a fan going on that area too as soon as you can.

Thanks guys. The nob is getting really shrivelled up now & is really soft. I think I'll cut it right off like Andy did & put some fungicide on it. I hope it works, as this is my only pumpkin on that plant & I've terminated all the vines. Hate to lose one before the Patch Tour. Thanks again for all your help.

Jerry, thanks for your help. I took a sharp knife out & cut it off flush with the pumpkin. Once off I put some bleach on it & later some fungicide. It looks dry & hopefully okay. Thanks again for all your help guys. Take care & good luck.
