Today we made a "push" device to keep the stem of our 1097 Beachy from growing into the pumpkin. We really don't know what we are doing so if you see something we could do better let us know.

Here are some more pictures: One is the device and the other is the pumpkin before the device was added.

I thought about doing something like that with 1 of mine, except I don't have a garage.....maybe a tree or stake would work. If someone comes up with a better idea, let me know. Good luck !

Easy does it, in an effort, to push a stem. Slow easy push or pull works. Either can also deliver, to you, the damnest stem split you have ever seen. Speaking from experience. Harr Harr. :)

i have been lucky over the years in moving my pumpkins. i do not want to jinx myself, so i WON'T tell you that you can move a 500-plus pound pumpkin by simply, and gently (!!!) rocking that puppy at its "resonant frequency". experimentation on a smaller pumpkin, for instance, will make it clear to you all that as the pumpkin rocks back and forth, the amount of surface area that is contacting the ground is minimal, thereby enabling me to move the fruit any way i want it to go...this is DANGEROUS to the fruit as well as your (my) mental health, but it is neat-o in that it does work and i have moved things that i would have been rolling into the weeds because of a monster stem split later on....some laws of physics are overcome by doing this and by applying moderate pressure to the fruit with the hand that you are not rocking the pumpkin with, IN the direction that you want the fruit to go, it will happen.
practice on a small fruit first, and as i do, ONLY use this technique once you are an expert at it, as i THINK i am, lol----this is known as the 'pal2 method...patent pending. emergencies only. PS---it is possible to rock the fruit any way that is necessary, whether it is from side to side or from end to end...it must be done in moderation! eric out.
