I noticed last night on my biggest pumpkin that there is a dried, almost crystalized looking material at the bottom of my blossom. Amber in color, and hard. Gonna blow on me?

I'm not certain but I've seen this type of ooze come out of very small pin holes on a few blossom ends, colored amber or light brown. My growing coach instructed me to leave them alone...the ooze was actually serving to self heal the fruit in those areas.

That's not to say that you aren't in trouble though!

Oh thanks, real confidence booster! lol

Another thing, how much water should I put down EACH night? We have had no rain for two weeks, and I water every two days, but on the second day, I notice my gains are weaker. These things suck that much moisture a day?

constant water supply...don't keep the pumpkin "jerkin" along...stop start stop start...try and keep it smooth..slow and steady wins the race. when putting on 25 a day..it's all water! LOL..keep it steady...not to much especially with the blossom end weeping...try and keep it dry.

listen to your plant, if when you do not water, the growth slows, that may be a hint. From what I have read you may be better off watering more every other day as apposed to less every day, fungus and other nasty things love constant moist conditions

Herbie, the crystal amber ooze is just the pumpkin healing itself. Not to worry unless it is in a spot that may split, lots of times it's just normal checking. As to water, we water 4x per day for about 5 min. each time on a hot day, 2 min. per time on cooler days. Today it is raining so we have turned off water. Our water is on timers, so handy. I agree with Alexdad you want to be consistant with your water. Have fun! Sherry
