I seen in my regular pumpkin patch that there is one bright orange fruit already. Will he rot on the vine now? Plant seems to be doing OK. It is the Racer variety I bought from Johnny's seeds, and it is early maturity. Maybe too early, like 85 days. If they all ripen, I'll lose dozens of them. Any help out there?

cut off vine, wash off or dip or spray in 10% clorox and water and put in cool dry area, I dont have that many so mine i put in the house with air conditioning put them on a soft old towel or towels, and they will stay perfect all the way through Holloween. I won a local fair with a big max ,i took off the 1st if Aug i brought it in the house, and put on a couple towels, My wife said are those my good towels, i said yeah i coundn't find the Comforter ha!

I can't get to it, it's in the middle of about a 30ft wide patch. Gonna have to rot then.

My "Pumpkin Production Guide" book says to leave them on the vine. They also need to be hardened off before trying to store them.

you can leave them on the vine or cut them, just keep them out of the sun, in a shed or garage will be great, the cooler the better
