Take a look at my 2 diary entries and see if anybody can help me figure this out. Have come close to giving this hobby up as it gets so frustrating. Thanks Todd

Todd,,the pic of the leaves looks like they have some small greyish/white spots on them.. If they do,,its more than likely powerdy mildew..Start spraying now,,dont wait because it spreads and will kill the plant..As far as the split on the stump,,not much you can do..It appears to have already healed..I just yanked a young plant because wind caught it and twisted the stump and split it..It will still feed the plant,,just not as good as if the stump was solid.. Maybe the stump twisted when the plant layed down..Good Luck..

Todd, looks like pm to me also and Jeff is right, start to spray it now. My one vine twisted before I even got it into the ground. I also felt like giving it up this year. I came this close... to ripping them up and forgetting the whole idea even existed. One problem after another and each getting worse than the last. These wonderful people here keep telling me to be patient and I will have pumpkins. We have them now. We are a month behind everyone but we are now glad that we continued. At the end of the season I owe a lot of growers here a great big thanks. Wish I could shake each and everyone's hand. Keep going there buddy and be patient.

Hey, pumpkin growing is a lot of work, you either love it or hate it. This has been a bad year for me too. 23" of rain in May & June turned my patch into a mud bog. I almost pulled the plants, but I hung in there thanks to this web site, and eventually the main grew like crazy, almost like it was looking for some drier, and higher ground. Very few side vines until July. Now I have a pumpkin on all three of the plants I am growing. They are behind about a month but heck, a pumpkin on the vine is better than none. :-) No PB this year but I gained a lot of knowledge.

Todd,

That crown rot could be Fusarium but the leaves don't look like it.

I don't know where in Indiana you are so here is the link you'll need to find your local Perdue Extension agent:

http://www.ces.purdue.edu/counties.htm

Find your county's office. Call them & ask for the plant pathology dept. Ask them how you can go about getting a sample to them & a slide made to determine what the problem is.

I also found this email address but I wouldn't wait for email. I'd be on the phone first thing tomorrow morning.
