The best growing pumpkin I have hver had developed a small split at day 30, 439#. I am doing my best to get it to heal, but if it doesn't, how long will it take to mature the seeds? It is crossed with another good genetic seed, and I would really like to grow it next year if it doesn't make it to weighoff.

I've heard as much as 52 days, but I've had viable seeds in fruit as young as 40 days...

depends on how badly you want the seeds to germinate. I have a plant this year growing from a seed out of a 20 day old fruit. It can be done but longer is better. I would try for 40+ days.

I collected the seeds from my day 37 fruit about a week ago. Planted 6 seeds 1 came up. The seedling is small compared to normal seeds. The seeds seemed about half full when I collected them. The seeds from a day 30 pumpkin last year were empty. Nurse that baby along and you might get some seed. Try cutting halfway through the stem to keep it from splitting wide open.
