Subject: Stem and fruit cracks

Stem cracks eventually moving into the fruit seems to be a huge problem for me this year. Is there anything that can be done now, or for the upcoming season that will remedy this problem. Watering has been fairly consistent, so could it be strickly genetic or possibly a nutrient deficiency? Thoughts much appreciated.

Keep your pumpkin well protected against the sun. Apperently olive oil wiped on the pumpkin can help but i can not prove this.
