And I was wondering this. Say I harvest my pumpkin by September 15, which is typical to get a frost around here. Can I leave the pumpkin intact, and harvest the seeds later and carve it for halloween, or will the seeds rot in the cavity?
What is the earliest anyone has harvested a pumpkin and how long was it before the seeds were pulled out?

September 3rd was the earliest I harvested; stored it in my garage until halloween. Only had a few seeds germinate inside. No problems with pumpkin or seed rot. As long a the pumpkin is sound, you should be alright.

had a 2 main vined plant in 2004....set fruit on each main close to each other... at 400 pounds we had to make a decision....and we cutone off...could not remove it without destroying alot of plant so we let her set....that was august 15th ish....the remain fruiton on to 798# and when we pulled the fruit out the little one (around 400 was intact) was removed withit....and placed infront of Marc's garage...where it sat until late Oct. at which point it was opened and carved and was perfectly sound inside....we were both surprised.. Your car?... where's your priorities at? LOL
Just don't store it directly on cement! or do as Dan did, leave it where it's at!

I used to harvest pumpkins in July in Alabama and keep them in my kitchen so they wouldn't get hot in the sun. I never had any seeds rot or sprout in the pumpkins and the pumpkins lasted until Holloween.
