Just wondering if under the GPC rules if a pumpkin with a split or stem split disqualifes it from being an offical wieght? I have heard stories of pinholes causing disqualifications. (Just got two 1/2 stem into pumpkin splits today :{ )

Thanks in advance for any help

Stem splits do not disqualify your fruit, it is only DQ'd when the split reaches to the inside cavity of the fruit. I had a stem split in 2000 on my 771 that you could have driven a truck through (not really) it was so big, but as long as the split does not reach inside the cavity, you are "good to go". The nice part about stem splits is that it is the thickest part of the fruit usually, so it doesnt happen to get through to the cavity from this spot too often. Just keep it clean, treat with captan and get it dry. If it is pooling up in the top stem split, cut a hole in the bottom of the stem to drain liquid, fan dry, and captan the effected meat of the fruit.
