At at the point in the season where now I need to kick it up a notch. I am way behind last years kins due to the hail devestation that leveled the patch. Im sure you seen the pics....anyways no excuses...I need to go warp 12 without a warp core breach......I am thinking that now I am done with pollination I have less that 59 days and plenty of babies.... I am wanting to cull off uneeded flowers and vines on a systematic slow basis. I need all the horse power I can get without popping... Is this customary to do. My feeling is why spend energy and plant nutrients and fluids to develop what is not needed. Ill go slowly but I wanting to throw all the excess baggage out the window....for now this is a one way trip.....Im not coming back...... Please Advise

I cut off mine from my plant in PA the other day. My reasoning was more to lessen the cucumber beetle attraction, since they love to congregate in the flowers. I don't think it can hurt, so go for it!

I am not sure what is worse, you using Star Trek analogies, or me understanding them.

I am in the same position as you, 11 pumpkins pollinated oldest is 12 days old. I am ready to cut off all excess and speed it up too. What happens if you trim it all back in one setting? Do the pumpkins blow?

Also, I have one plant with 5 or 6 set on it, what age should I cull the 'kins.

I cull one third per day in three days just as soon as I trust my judgement that the chosen one is basketball and in good health. If in doubt keep the two best ones for another week. Spurts are possible but taking several days should not be of any concern.

I cut a bowling ball size kin....it took me 4 days....1/3 at a time...Master told me to go slow.... it was growing about the same rate but was on a secondary and a bad position.....I read about Tom Beachys remarks and decided lets go for Gold....both of these kins were pollinated with the same males so IF I would of had something diff I would of made a different choice basically due to wanting genetics,,,and mo seeds.....to give out....this year Im going small.....thats just the way it is .....but if I look at it....with what I have achieved helping others get started and interested.....I done pretty good...so Im already thinking about how to do better for next year.....you all have helped out......Thnks U R da best
