ok back when my 1124 was at day 28 or so my pumpkin split on stem end half on stem & half on pumpkin i caulght it within 1-2 hrs after it split , and sealed it with clear silicone emeaditly i could see threw silicone & it got up to half in wide & 1.5 in long ,I thought it was only a matter of time before it was over but now its closing backup & only .5 long & .75 inch long now iv doug out silicone & it does go into stem a ways several inchs but i know dont think its into pumpkin ,, QUESTION is is it legal entry if only into stem , its at close to 700 & still going its been over 25 days since i discovered it so it must be ok inside if still growing is it legal ?? or if stem was removed is that legal ?? for weighoff ??

As long as there is no breach into the actual cavity of the Pumpkin, and there is no bad rot in the split area, then it is legal. Just remember that all sealants and excess fungicide and/or sulpher powder must be removed before the judges get to it.

If you do seal it with caulk, do you leave it on the pumpkin or take it off before it is weighed?

All non Pumpkin substances must be removed before being inspected and weighed.

Mike is right i have seen a few stem splits st weighoffs,the inspector will check to if its breached the cavity 9 times out of 10 they dont, and all forein material is not allowed on pumpkin altho in reality i have seen Captan slide by, that was the judges fault, not mine so i said nothing.

1 trick you can do ,if it gets worse before weighoff put sulfur down in the spit area to dry it up the inpector will put his or her finger down there. i know that sound bad, but if it doesn't feel soft it's a go!!!but i didn't tell ya that.
