This very morning she blew a dime sized hole at a segment dead center on the Dill Ring. We were at 550 and counting fifteen to twenty pounds a day....then she knew and slowed down to ten last week. No smell or gunk. We treated her and filled the hole with latex. Nine times out of ten this situation puts them down for the ten count.
Dad gum it anyhow............I finally had a good grow going. Oh well..........just wait until next year. :) I'll bet 'ya I will have time to haul in the poop this year.

My condolences Doc. Do you have any pics of it to share? If not, can you describe the shape and color? How old was the pumpkin? My only hope for a weighoff pumpkin is the 1233.5 Reiss. It's a long time til weighoffs, a lot can happen.

The fruit followed it's genetics very closely....Lots of vigor, little or no plant woes, deep orange with real pumpkin shape. It blew on day 45 over 550 growing from up to thirty two pounds a day down to seventeen then down to eleven. These are sure signs that something may be wrong. We were treating the Dill Ring daily with calcium sprays.
.....It is crossed with a dandy deep orange Al Berard male that was near a thousand pounds. Factoring the Berard growing conditions that has to be a dandy male.
.....If I can hold her for ten days even on slow grow the seed will be excellent. They should not be to bad now. Even if it ferments there are some who believe the fermentation strengthens the seed. Left in to long they may also sprout. Even in seed removal we walk the line between good and best.
.....Off goes the cover in an effort to see the maximum orange. I shall increase the horticultural oils to suck up all the orange that baby has.............and she has more orange than I have ever seen in an AG.
......If you be nice now I will share seed with all the 'ifs considered. November dern it not now. I still have the awsome odds to try and beat. :)

I swear on a stack of black books.....If she starts to rot which is most likely I will set her up and carve her in the patch. At that point I will be able to get a pix. From the git go it positioned herself in the patch where pictures are next to impossible with my photo equipment and skills.
