milford, CT,

I've been keeping measurement data on my pumpkins and was wondering if what expectations for OTT growth are reasonable for Late August/early September. I'm at 46 days and have averaged 4 inches OTT per day this week. Can this be kept up or do measurements really go to a crawl in September. Assuming the plant/fruit stays healthy. Mark

My gains have been similar, and so is the age of our oldest pumpkins. Four to five inches a day, and right now I have an estimated weight of 512 lbs. Not without problems though!

Mark. In my opinion it all depends upon your weather patterns and if you have normal, unusually warm or unusually cool periods between now and Weigh-Off. There are many many variables to consider but one is for certain and that is the reduction in daylight as the days/weeks go by.

You can expect your weight gain to decline to close to zero by day 70 in a roughly linear fashion from where it is now. For a rough estimate of final weight, take 1/2 your average daily weight gain for the last three days and multiply this by the number of days left to day 70. Add this result to your current weight. This will give you a ballpark idea of your final weight est.

milford, CT,

Thanks everyone...I guess you knew what I was trying to do...estimate what the final weight will be. My goal this year was 700 lbs and if she stays healthy I should make it based on 1/2 the weight gain x # days left. Since she is only 47 days old that gives me 23 days till 70 days.
Thanks for the input. Mark

Is it likely to completely stop growing by day 70, or may you still get some growth?
