My 625 Foss is holding steady on it's damaged stem. Believe it'll make it to the fair this weekend...
BUT - it has a deep green underside and bright orange topside. I estimate it's 30-35% Green (providing the green is solid underneith)
How much green will disqualify it as a 'kin?

It really depends on where you weigh it...under what rules..Some places are 90-100% Orange, salmon, cream or white for pumpkin. 100% for Green. Anything inbetween falls in to the other category.

I have a squash, which was true green, now soms small parts grey, some a bit white-ish. (% is difficult to see because of some parts with ripening cork-like cover.) Is it still a squash now?

I won biggest squash at the 4 town fair one year with my first 161 pumpkin. It was 25-50% green. It depends on the bylaws of the organization sponsoring the weigh-off. Pumpkins have a dominant gene that turns them orange and a recessive of green, the rest is nature. Nice squash or pumpkin, whatever it turns out to be.

Teach, I wish you well and thanks for growing the seed two years in a row. Post a pic of you and the fruit at the fair.

Aug, 19...Indy State Fair....one fruit was 100% green and weighed with all the others...just depends on where you are weighing it. If you are asking bout GPC weigh-off...ask on GPC board and I am sure they will respond quickly...they always have b-4. Good luck and it sounds like a punkin to me..... Peace, Wayne

Hey Bill, That 625 Foss has been the most consistant and hardiest of all the GPs I've tried so so far... Granted, it's not been consistant in WHAT it produces - but blame that on the open pollination **grin**
The 150 Pecks (from the 625 Foss in 2005) have been trying to grow tons of white 'kins this year!
This will most likely be one of the primary varieties/strains that I grow/study for many years to come! Have to have at least ONE variety that I know will thrive and produce SOMETHING every season **grin**

if i remember right, the bottom of the pumpkin isn't included when you calculate the percentage of orange and green. someone correct me if i'm wrong.
