We are going to the Fair with our AGs and some other pumpkins we have grown some of which have not turned orange yet. Is there a way to orange the small ones up quickly? In say, 6 days?

Let them get sunlight. If they do have some color (and have smooth skin) you can rub some olive oil on them which will bring out some more color and luster...but you have to have some color to begin with.

The pumpkins are Howdens but I think they are immature. I'll give them sun light tomorrow and see if that helps. I got my regular pumpkins in pretty late.

Don't try oiling a Howden pumpkin.... makes them rot quick! Hot sun works much better!

Kristine. If all else fails get out the Orange paint and a paint brush, sounds stupid but i think someone did it once for a joke.
  Regards Mike

I've spray painted pumpkins for the front porch. I had a nice round 250 pounder for the porch a couple years ago but it was streaked with cream & green. Krylon orange looked a little fake so I grabbed a can of Jacobsen tractor paint from the garage & it was perfect.
Just don't try a stunt like this at a fair or GPC weigh-off unless the fruit is for exhibition only.

The pumpkins are off the vine and just put them out in the fog. We should get sun by noon. Thanks everyone!
