If you have never entered into a GPC weighoff does that make you a first year rookie? Not that I have anything worth worrying about......lol just would like to know?

               What constitutes a rookie?
6 plants and 3 rotting pumpkin carcasses.

This was my third year attempting to bring in a monster, and '07 will be considered my "ROOKIE" season...and so it goes....Peace, Wayne

I think that the Lawman would be best suited to answer this question. He has been a rookie in several venues and might qualify as an expert in this category.
Every year I make a mistake and think "dang" and feel like a giant pumpkin rookie all over again.

Here in colorado I consider anyone that has not done a 500+ pounder a rookie. And so does the AGGC, as you usually will not be listed unless you break the 500+ mark..Hope you have one over the 500 this season all Colorado growers but genetics and conditions are always different. Remember here where I grow is at over 6000+ Feet Altitude and 500+ is not a problem due to experience unless you do not know about growing in harsh conditions, But 1000+ is a big problem at high altitude so far, and hopefully someday I will Learn as every year we all learn and set a new level of experience for the environment we grow in ..lol..JK

James K, You are right! Colorado is a very harsh growing area, we have it all, freezing temps, hail balls, altitude, hurricane winds, drought, and searing temps......all in the same day.....lol. Yup Im thinking Im still a rookie this year but am planning on gradji-aintin next year......hail on me not. I have learned so much this year and have so much more to learn......but the best part is I have learned that there are many fine people out there that care and help one another out, and I want to be part of that process! 1000 lbs'er in Colorado a challenge for sure, but its been done......but first I got to get past the 500 mark..... Grow'em BIG....
PS How does GPC look at a rookie for $$ consideration in the rookie of the year award?

This is a good post, I don't think it matters how big the fruit is, but if you can only measure your fruit once a week instead of twice a day. Then you are no longer a Rookie LOL I think I'm still a Rookie, did really good until I started getting a biggy. Now, well you know !!!!!!

I'm a first year grower who has a smile on his face after reading the last post. Many a late July morning, at dawns early light, with with tape in hand, I was out in the patch, in my boxer trunks. Always way before six AM. My wife became a little concerned with this behavior.
