now that it is weigh off time again...

here is a cheap way to make a lifting tarp capable of lifting a 500 lb pumpkin.
what you need:
16 x 20 tarp
grommet kit (you can get these from Wal-mart)
1/2 inch PVC pipe
some rope

Fold the tarp in half twice.
Put grommets in desired locations.
Cut PVC pipe into 6 inch handles.
tie the handles onto the tarp.

here are some pictures...

Thats so cool. I'm going to try that. I was worrying about how I was going to carry my behemoth, but hey, now I know.
Thanks again

OK I've got an error somewhere...
I need to double check how many layers I have on mine...
it is either a 8 x 10 ft tarp folded twice (4 layers) to end up with a 4 x 5 lifting tarp.
Or a 16 x 20 folder 4 times (8 layers) to end up with a 4 x 5 lifting tarp.

I think it is the 8 x 10 folded twice but I will double check tonight to make sure I get this correct.

we've lifted 500 pounders with those cheap blue tarps with no problem. just need to have a good grip on the corners.

Ray,
thanks for piggy backing on my post ... you know some people don't want to spend $73 for a 5 x 5 ft tarp. but I guess posts like this one of yours are good ... it lets people know that you're still in it just for the money ! $$$$$ nothing wrong with that... just letting people know where you're coming from...
expecting your standard reply that says you've done more for pumpkins than me or anyone else in the world... Yawn... same old, same old. lets not go down that road again.

Everyone else,
If you want a nice top of the line tarp then buy one from Ray ... if you don't there are other options.
I forgot to check my tarp last night- hopefully i'll remember to check it tonight.

Ok I finally got around to checking my tarp last night.
it is 2 layers thick in the middle and 4 layers thick for about 2 inches all the way around the outside edges...
it must have been a 6 x 8 ft to start with. Now it is approximately a 5 x 4 ft.
sorry for any confusion I may have caused.

I've lifted 500#+ pumpkins with a scrap of old carpeting, I even rolled up opposite sides around electrical conduit , cut hand holes, and fastened with duct tape. Carpeting is some pretty strong stuff!
