My smaller pumpkin has been starting to slowly split apart at the stem/fruit connection. I have been faithfully applying captan. It is still growing with the splits, very slow, but I am afraid of what may come. They aren't too major yet, but are getting there. I was wondering, I am happy with what it is at, around 242 lbs. If I take off everything and just let the sun get to it, will it ripen it sooner and slow its growth?? If this is the case, will it be better for the pumpkin that has its splits?? Or will this just make it worse??

Oh, and other then a fan, what would be a good idea to keep the split dry, as the captan on it is still wet from yesterday? My mom bickers about enough stuff and I am sure there is no way I can get a fan out to the patch without hearing the end of it!!

borrow a friends fan? If you are happy with it, cut it off and store it in a cool dry place,

I would probably let it ripen first. I noticed some orange around the blossom and stem end

I snuck out my compact hair dryer this evening, plugged it into an extension cord, and (hopefully) dried all the captan and surrounding area. I hope I didn't cook part of it, but I didn't smell anything.
