The Fair that was going to weigh and display my pumpkin has decided that they will not offload my pumpkin with a forklift due to liability concerns. I would need to supply the manpower myself. I think I'm going to tell them to kiss my a- and take it to Altoona.

Yep, similar problem to what I faced at Dickson.. Fortunantly, my 'kin was only 400 - so six guys and a hammock could do it.....
I agree with Wayne.. Take it by there, and when they can't unload it - just say (fairly nicely..) "oops, I'm sorry I wasted ya'lls time - I'll just go on to Altoona where they're used to handling Biggins. Hey, call me next year if you've got a forklift!"
When I mentioned taking mine to the state fair next year (due to my 'kins getting larger every season) - the crop building lady gave me her number and told me she'd work something out with the Co-op if I warned her in advance of bringing a REAL Biggin... So it works..

Jim, Sorry to hear about your situation. If I wasn't going back home this weekend I would come down myself and help. Could it be that Mat Fox is one of the judges? He probably doen't what you to break that record. F-them. Take it to Altoona.

The fair he speaks of I believe is the Bloomsburg fair and they are horrible at support. I wouldnt take anything to that fair. Winner gets 30 bucks, the fruit stays in a heated agriculture building for display for over a week, and you have to bring the help with you to unload before the fair, and then back again to help get the fruit after it is over.
  Unreal..

Sorry for a poor response to your efforts. I find most people up here are loving the GP's when it comes to weighoff time. It is a good draw. Usually all you have to do is drive in and people are more happy to help. I would move on and write a letter to them. If they want to sponsor a weighoff they need to come through or mention it in the bylaws.

Why have a forklift if one has "liability concerns" associated with it's use. Do they even have a licensed forlift operator? If so there is no reason for concern. Ifd not, they shouldn't have a lift truck at their disposal.
Here's a nasty little get even trick.
Go back to the fair oganizers & ask to speek with their *licensed* forklift operator about OSHA Regulation 112.236. You can quietly exit the scene after the fair organizers start their nervous huddle.
The forklift will collect dust for at least a week while they try to discover there is no such number in the OSHA books (or if there is, I just got very lucky).
Find or organize a real weigh-off. The GPC is here to help.

Thats funny Tremor. Just hope they arent familiar with the OSHA code. One may end up looking goofy if they are. Its like me talking to an auto mechanic about them screwing up my downdraft inverter and needlessly replacing the criss-cross valve.

This sounds appropriate for many weigh-offs.

The sad thing is I drove forklifts for 6 years before and during college. I can't decide what to do. I have to keep it on the vine the rest of the week since I'm going back to PA. But it won't last 3 weeks till Altoona on the vine. There is a tiny bit of rot forming where the leaf above the stem was. Plus, Altoona is a long haul with a 5-600 pounder in the bed. Thanks, Jim
