Okay, so there were only two of us and the fair is walking distance from my house and my pumpkin was not very big (three of us unloaded it without groin injuries). Now what do I do to raise the bar again. Anyone re-invested the winnings to promote competition for next year? I am kind of sorry there were not many with me. I would rather have come in last if that many of us were growing. They ignored the weigh-off this year because there were only two of us. I was disappointed but could see their point. They were nice enough to see if they can bring it to the scale in the morning to at least weigh it for me. These people are great. I would like to resurect the sport in Somers. It would be fun to have some more company. Comments?

Congratulations Rob! You had fun & won the event that's what counts!
See if you can get 1 or 2 of them (Four Town Fair organizers) to our weigh-off at Penfield this October 2nd. Maybe seeing a real GPC event will get them fired up.

Congrats Rob.... You could utilize the winnings to increase the size of your patch.. Maybe contact some 4-H or FFA members and see if any of the kids want to help grow a plant - with your guidance...
The other thing you could do - is what I'll do next year.. My two younger kids are now wanting to each enter one against me next year.... So I'm making them help **grin***

rob not so long ago two guys thought it would be fun to have a giant pumpkin weigh off in ri. here we are 12 or so years later and we are doing very well for such a small state.
please do come to the ct weigh off as steve suggests and see the ri mafia in action. we are like a pack of wild dogs. we travel in groups and attack as one lol
plus we enjoy the day at ct seeing old friends while making new ones.

Wow!!! I will stress the GPC events. I talked to Ken tonight and he decided not to kick my butt here. I wish he did to get some notoriety to this fair. They are great people. My mentors above, I salute you. I am doing everything to promote this fine (and disfunctional)sport. ScienceTeacher, you have been integral, Steve, what can I say but the backbone of Ken D, my mentor and the Polish RI mafia to keep this sport underground and unknown. I think of you all as great friends and mentors and enjoy living the dream of one day coming close to what you all have accomplished. The pole is set high. I respect the friendships and the synergy that has developed through this site and the GPC. Keep it up. It is recognized and appreciated.
