               Good Morning Everyone,
Last nite was the weight in for Barnesville's Pumpkin Festival.....
Weight in results for the top 5
  1. Winston Wychoff, Burbank, Oh 1251 lbs
  2. Todd Skinner, Barnesville, Oh 1106 lbs
  3. McMillen, PA 958 lbs
  4. Wilma & the late Clyde Truax, Barnesville, oh 898 lbs
  5. Neptune, New Concord, OH 921 lbs
They had a gentleman by the name of Leggit out of Circleville, oh who had a 1173lb pumpkin but they disqualified it, because of a soft spot...This pumpkin was a nice size, mostly tall....Shame it had a soft spot.....
Brooks, had 2 really nice pumpkins, i think that they was around 600 plus pounds......Good Growing Brooks,.....
Brooks i didn't mean to embrass you, when i called you over and had you turn around to get your sticker off of you....if I offended ya, i'm sorry, but i was only being nice....lol....i would want someone to do the same for me........
My Pappy and I had only 1 pumpkin to take this year, she ended up weighing in at 549 lbs......I took my final measurements before we took her off the vine and by the chart i had the weight said she would be around 551 lbs...So I was complaining about 2 whole pounds that the chart was off from......
Well i hope everyone has had a really nice growing season.....Next year, I'll be able to do more than what i was able to this year, couldn't be around the chemicals this year do to being pregnant.....Our little one will be a 3rd generation pumpkin grower, hopefully she'll have as much fun as I have doing it with my Father....
  Kindest Regards, Crystal Owens

LOL, NO , you didnt embrass me, Im glad you took the new levi sticker tag that shows what size jeans I wear off my leg , people would have thought I bought me a new pair of jeans for the festival or something , Ha! LOL!! But hey , get my pumpkin weight right dang nabbit!!,LOL
Michelle Verhoff's (Youngin's) and husband hAd some nice Pumpkins two of her Pumpkins went mid 600's and one was high 500's I pretty sure. I weighed in a 726 which was off my 763 Bosworth that went heavy and a 720 that was off my 845 Bosworth that went really light. They was right about the long pumpkins going real light.
Dan Kirts had two pumpkins weighed in one just missing 500 and they other in the mid range of 500. Me and Dan BS'ed Most of the festival, great guy.

Oh, One important note, The seeds they was grown off of.

Winstons 1251 was grown off the 1370 Rose
Skinners 1106 was grown off of a 500 and some Speakman?,(Not sure on this seed sorry, but Ill find out tonight.)
Doc Bob Ligget grew his monster 1173 off his own 1353 Ligget. It was a beautiful wide TALL pumpkin. Beautiful shape.(Save me a seed from this pumpkin Doc LOL)
McMillen's 958 was grown off the 1367.5 Rose

Sorry again, but On a final note, Doc Liggets 1173 Pumpkin could have went ether way in my opinion, yes it had a small soft spot about a inch wide on the side of the pumpkin in a rib area but no visable hole that penatrated into the cavity. It should have went the other way in my opinion and dont think it was a DMG but Im not the judge.

               Brooks,
Sorry about not getting your weight right, "WHAT WAS I THINKIN".....My poor mind must not have been thawed out from that chilly weather last nite.....plus it was pretty late when i posted the message...had to finish decorating my yard for the festival...lol...
From my understanding the committee was afraid of a repeat from last year if they accepted the pumpkin...I know I felt really bad for the Leggets, to have traveled all that way and then get disqualified.....
I left a nice pumpkin in the patch last nite because I had mixed emotions about taking it or not, so i went on my gut instinct and left her behind.....She had a weak spot on her stem and i was afraid of them turning her away from the competition......
Now, Brooks, WE ALL KNOW THAT YOU BOUGHT THEM NEW JEANS TO TRY AND PRESUADE THOSE JUDGES....LOL....
WELL, I'll probally see ya up there, gotta go i have to get my stuff ready for the other events today.....

Maybe not the place to mention it, but the 664.5 Liggett which produced the 1353 Liggett has also produced three other pumpkins heavier than 1170 lbs. The 1353 this season has already produced 2 heavier than 1170 including the Swedish record.
