I think we should hold a contest and put our pumpkin seeds on the line for who has the best front yard display's. Some of you pumpkin people are very creative and should come to our patch. I would love to find some old wrought iron fence for a graveyard like Randy's.

I like that idea. My swamp witch (05 diary) has been upgraded with motors. The head and arms move.

I put many hours into building this darn witch. It looks great at night. I have a small fire under the cauldren and a fogger connected up that blows fog from the cauldren. The head rotates and the arms stir the brew. Next year I'm going to incorporate another one into the scene. Its all made from wood.

May I suggest an ego busting computer created certificate that could be saved be the major award. Money on things like this often generates a situation of literally non competition while a hand full of people win because of financial ability rather than creative involvement. In a year or two categorys could favor first year displays and such giving all a shot at the favor of all who place a vote. I would gladly join in this activity if it is not just a money race. Here's a chance to let everyone carve a pumpkin and make a display. From the new carvers will eventulally come some amazing work. The creative senses should love this.
This is a good idea..........go for it. Getting started is half done. So a couple of you take off and get the ball rolling.
If you have not seen Rocky's four or five pumpkin display of some three or four years back you missed a nice one.
I would always vote for a display that evidenced the help of spouces and kids. :) That's me. This should be all fun. To bad I can not jump in with you but I may generate the umph and do it even at this late notice. Next year in good health I surely will.

I think that is a good Idea. I might have a chance at winning something like that. And I'm not done yet! I don't have a lot of seeds to give away but what I do have people are welcome to have If they win!
Growing the giant pumpkins was my insperation to do the front yard decoration. And showing off the pumpkin.

I would enter the category of small business commercial displays. The suggestion for category....One giant of any size supported, by seasonal trim and surroundings.
My home town small restrurant talked me into parking and carving mine there after the weigh-off this weekend. All the guys that frequent this every early morning town meeting have pitched in to off load the beast and set it up in good cooperation. There will be corn, millet smaller pumpkins and such to ballance the eye appeal.
It's kind'a like this. If they do I will.:) Nice way to end the season and make fun for all. The restruant is building a charitable fund for their choice charity by charging a buck to guess the number of seeds. I get a free coffee and bowl of Wheaties to keep me alive while carving. They will clean up. Now that's a deal!

Of course I would share my 2006 seed from the Reiss 1233.5 crossed with the big beautiful 978.6 Berard...to all winners. This seed of course promises to be a dandy based on genetics that just won't quit being better.
I nominate Shannon to kick this off. The rules could be let each person name the category. We can sort through the entries and come up with some kind of groupings as we go.
So sharpen those creative juices and enter something.
