Does a concave bottom usually mean the pumpkin will weigh light?? Is a seriously concave bottom even a greater chance of going light?

You will lose some weight to a concave bottom but until it hits the scale or is cut open there is no way to know for sure how thick or thin the bottom really is. The "thump test" might help but doesn't tell all.

Beet, my 720 I grew this year had a con-caved bottom even growing on the flat insulation, it went 5% light to the 0tt. I also think because this was a really long pumpkin it may have contributed a lot going light as well.
Tremor, Nick Welty is a pro at estimating a pumpkins weight by doing that thump test, I seen him do it at Barnesville last year. Pretty impressive how close he come to the weights.

According to me a concave bottom has no effect on the relation between est.weigth and real weight. If a pumpkin was massive it would, but a pumpkin is hollow, so when the bottom is concave, there's propably less hollow space in the pumpkin.
