Unfortunately, I'm trying to figure what % lite my pumpkin went this year. It taped at 811 but weighed 764. Is the denominator the estimated or the actual weight? That is, 47/811, or 47/764 ? Small difference but what's right? Thanks, Jim

(expected - actual) / actual x 100 (811-764)/ 811 X 100% = 5.8% light still bigger than mine!

It might be easier to think of the denominator as always being the estimated weight (y), while the numerator would always be the actual weight (x). Then all you do is subtract 1.
That way you can use the same formula for all of your pumpkins whether they are heavy or light. If you get a negative number, it's under. If you get a positive number, it's over.
Using your example: (x/y)-1 =(764/811)-1 =-0.057953144266337854500616522811344

Thanks all. Now all I have to do is figure out how to grow them heavy!
