What is your most outrageous brain thought relative to growing giant pumpkins? Ideas that come to you in the middle of the night in a dream??, or nightmare.,..... after 10 beers and a all day'er in the patch? Perhaps achievable, perhaps nonsense, if there is such a thing...... What has been your craziest, yet maybe your most brillant idea? Inquiring Minds want to know......There are no bad ideas here......

anyone ever put a cloche/greenhouse around a large growing pumpkin plant to keep it warm in the fall? And use lights in an attempt to mimic "ideal" growing conditions?

I'd like to grow giant pumpkins in places where nobody has grown them seriously before. That way I could hold records in several countries or regions. For example, what's the current record in Monaco? How about Tuvalu? Nunavut? I'd also like to grow one in Israel (where I haven't read anything about giant pumpkins, but I did see something about a 12 pound lemon).

finding new ways to inject and/or allow extra oxygen to penetrate several inches below the soils surface. also forcing oxygen into your well as water is being pumped out onto the patch. this is one of those extra elements in your program that can show up in the mine is bigger than yours department at seasons end. pap

Pap it is called Calcium Peroxide...it reacts with the water.. Kind of spendy for the area required to grow a giant pumpkin.

shannon - i've used it, but it will jack the pH up if you're not careful.

Parabolic mirrors that redirect the sun so I can help Ole LongBeard grow big and still keep his trees. I figure if his beachball goes way big I will still find a way to beat him and figure out what I will wear on the Leno Show when I bring the new Colorado State and World record in 2007 at 1602 lbs .......the first pumpkin to win the world record with hail dents in it...........A hail resistance hybrid 1602 Grande X 1068 Titanium alloy......lol.

You could use deuterated(heavy) water but you will need government funding.
