I have somebody that is wanting to buy my sons #440. I figured .20/lb was a fair price. Am I too far off base on the price? The cool thing is they are planning on dropping it from a crane.

Prbly depends upon where you are and what is available...but have read in the past that close to 500# is worth at least .50 per #...close to 1K is worth around $1 per...don't hold me to the coals, but I think your son deserves at least that much!!!!! AG's are a lot of work...Congrats to your son for the 440. Great job!!! Peace, Wayne

Average retail cost here in CT 10-100 lbs = $.40/lb 100-500 lbs = up to $.60/lb 500+lbs - $1.00/lb plus delivery
To a degree, the bigger they are the more negotiating. Color, shape, timing & location play large roles in pricing.

We have had a ton of requests for giant punkins this year average price is around .75 cents a pound. Most folks dont want one for their church or party if its over 500 lbs cuz their to damn hard to move with out damage or injury to the purchasers lift crew. We have stopped selling them since we went to 4-6 plants per year as we have had to many problems getting the seeds back! Happy Halloween Everyone.

I have no friends. Everyone who buys a pumpkin pays 1.00 per lb from me.If I'm in a good mood and more importantly if the person is nice I'll pretty much deliver it for free here on the Island...they take it off the truck/trailer. It was such a rough year down here and so difficult/expensive to buy from upstate that I was getting 300bucks for 300lbers picked up if orange. The market will change yearly, stick to your guns on price... (I also gave away 3 to schools, two to friends, and 3 to my Mom.....they prefer 100-200lbers, orange, with the occasional nice grey or green one to contrast the bright orange of the 603Muller fruits.)

Ok then, how does one go about "advertising" their goods for sale other than attending the weigh-offs with them.

Thanks everyone....the person that contacted me did so by finding me on this sight. I decided .20/lb was fair. What does $88 break down to for an hourly rate on how much time I spent on this pumpkin alone this year? just kidding
