Made new friends at the weigh-off and kept the old ones. We have a bunch of good guys trying to take pumpkin growing to the next level here in Virginia.

I was never afraid to ask questions and get input from others then formulate a plan that works for me.
I tried to avoid "stress" on the plants from germination untill "picking" the fruit, no matter what was required.
Dedicated a minimum of 2 hours a day to the "patch",,,,,,,,,,everyday !
This started in early April and went until the prep was finished this fall. Hmmmm,,,,maybe get in one more drench here b4 freezeup.

We went back to growing at my son's elementary school. Due to the legal aspects of my commercial pesticide license, I declined to use registered pesticides. As such we used Milk (10% weekly) to successfully control Powdery Mildew. The Milk proved effective & caused no harm to the plant even when applied at midday at temperatures of 90°F. Go figure.

used seed stocks with proven potential, soil as perfectly balanced as possible, timing of plant size vs pollination time, feeding program, insect and disease control, organic feeding as needed. RESPECTED THE SOIL AND KEPT IT ALIVE AND WORKING ALL SEASON.

Sprayed Roundup before tilling and adding manure in the Spring. I had almost no weeds at all.

Followed my daughters advice and secured the domain name of ColoradoPumpkins.com which allowed for the interest, weigh-off and reuniting of pumpkateers in Colorado including one gentlemen that was attending weigh offs in Animosa, and Canada back in the 90's. I have requests for 35 new growers Im giving seeds to for next year, It is my hopes and dreams that someday we will have an event that equals the Half Moon Bays and Frerichs Farms, and others of the world.....with a sea of 1000 lbders, one of them mine, and one of them LongBeards! Course mine will still be heavier.......lol

I kept starting pumpkin seeds late into the season as the wet wheather and over fertilizing kept killing my plants all through May and June... I finally got a fruit set on Sept. 1st from a plant started July 4th. It went 50 days till frost and I got 575# out of it. Had a great time!!

Controlled the dreaded squash vine bore!!!!!!!! Bettered my soil.Cut way down on chemical fertilizers. Consistent watering.Spent way to much time in the patch, and I mean that in a good way. Much better weed control. Off topic,I need to get a hold of some the proven seed stock Pap talks about above!!! Oh well. Most importantly had Lot's of fun!!
