I know this year has been crazy for most growers, but this is a bit extreme.
This morning it was minus 11 at 8 AM (approx 10 F)
then the temp. rose to plus 15 at 11 AM (approx 59 F)
by 1 pm the temp dropped back to minus 6 (approx 20 F)
and 10 minutes ago or at 10 after 2 it was plus 17 (Approx63 F)

We get extreme temp changes, but usually only once in a while, this has been a roller coaster, to say the least.

You got it Eddy. But you have to love the warm temperatures during the day. The kids and I managed to get some baseball in today and get the Christmas lights up as well without a coat on. Enjoy it while we can. -35 is just around the corner.

At least with the raising and lowering of temps the patch will get well lined with those deep cracks. A free till courtesy of mother nature.

I have heard of Alberta having those extreme temperature changes--don't they call them "Chinooks"?

My buddy in Alberta gets migraines when the temperature changes that severely.

Of course on the West Coast it is just rain, rain, rain--but we have had some record setting wind storms too. It's funny, I grew up in a dry climate, now if it doesn't rain I don't feel right. Of course the rain is great for the endive crop--and believe it or not I still have green tomato plants on the side of the house (just starting to go brown now) under the overhang! One even started to bloom again this week when the temps hit 14-15C!

I think global warming may be the cause of some of this strange weather--or at least i have heard it is. the evidence seems so overwhelming now it is difficult to deny it is happening. I have heard that a 3 degree increase in temperature in the next 50 years is likely.

At the very first Earth Day rally, people were holding up signs which read; "BEWARE OF THE COMING ICE AGE."

I think cyclical changes in the Earth's median temp is normal. Why was there an Ice Age to begin with? It's normal.

Just my opinion.

I also believe this is more normal than global warming.
actually they said on the news, that lethbridge (2 hours south of here) holds the record for extreme temp changes. It was in 1950 something, but the temp changed from Minus 28C to plus 18C in 2 minutes. (94 degrees F. swing)
They are Chinooks, and the more Rain the west coast gets, the more Extreme our weather is. The warm aircomes over the mountains, and pushes out the cold air, and if we were in an Artic Air mass, the the cold goes out and the warm comes in.
Lot's of people suffer bad headaches, because of the Pressure change.

This summer we had the hottest July ever recorded (also hottest month ever recorded). In August we had the wettest and coldest August since at least 1900. It was followed by the driest and hottest September ever. Now we are having one of the wettest and the warmest October and November since 1700.

Eddy...what was the ice age really like?

Fair Time: Almost every "serious" scientists is in agreement that global warming is indeed happening. If you look at cyclical changes in the earth's temperature it still does cannot explain the dramatic warming that is occurring (i.e., melting of ice caps and glaciers etc.). The only way scientists can account for the change is greenhouse gases--meaning humans have had a hand in influencing the earth's climate. It is real, and it is happening right now, if you are fairly young you will see the repercussions in your lifetime (higher annual temperatures, extreme weather patterns ect.). Google it and you will see, check out this site:
