I do not want to stir things up here, but the way things go in the seed auction chat room anymore it seems are way out of control. I used to enjoy going in there and bidding now and then, and just watching how well it was run in a totally adult and family oriented manner, as It has been a yearly tradition for me for many years now almost since this web site was created many year ago to enjoy these auctions with my child keeping an eye on the bidding some times while I carry out evening household chores and letting me know what is happening and what seed is up so I can Jump. It seems things just havent kicked off as smoothly on the auction front this season and hopefully it will improve. My child tells me that the adults on the auction behave worse than what she has to deal with at school. I think a lot of folks ( my speculation ) will not participate anymore in the seed auction chat room if things continue in this manner, including myself. If I want to watch drama of who is guily or not guilty I can just turn on the TV and hear less profanity depending on the channel. I am not pointing fingers or trying to create enemies just trying to express an adult point of view on the overall picture of things. It seems like the old saying goes, The few ruin the fun for the many by setting a bad example.....Just My 2 Cents. Thanks again Ken For a well run website that I have always rated as number one on the list for many years. Thank You

My first auction here.

I enjoyed it, but there was a minor amount of disruption from matfox that did detract from the auction.

IMHO, any member who disrupts the auction should be bannished from using the site immediately, even if only temporarily, to allow the auction to continue in an orderly manner.

I agree with 400SF.
just seems to me its always the same few people who try spoil the auction for everyone.
i will point fingers.
matfox and Jordan should just shut up and enjoy the auction like everyone else.
matfox started on Tom when Tom was asked to help with the auction.
as always his $2 openig bid on lots is so funny, NOT.

these auctions are for a good cause if you dont want to help the clubs thats fine just dont hurt them.

I don't know who Mat Fox is(or what his problems are) but I DO know that his comments were NOT appreciated last night and on previous nights on this site. I rushed home from hockey last night and was pleased to discover that the auction was still on......then very upset that I had to put up with his crap.If at all possible it would be great if BP.Com could ban him from future auctions.

I haven't participated in any of the auctions. So, I can't comment directly on any of the people involved. But, it's a statistical certainty that in any large group, there are going to be bad apples. I don't think that can be solved.

However, it is possible to use a different auction technology. The guys from BP do a great job with the site. And, the chatroom is a good place to hang out and talk to other growers. But, I'm not sure that a huge chatroom is the best place to hold an auction when better solutions are available. EBay is NOT the only other option.

One bad apple in a basket soon causes others to spoil. If anyone's common concern is given, to the site owners, fair consideration, to the situation will be a matter, of fact.

Matfox was a huge disruption last night. A few great others were helping with the auction and matfox thought he would start making comments during the auction (which you don't do) and when they asked him to stop he got mad and became an idiot, and you know you went too far when you start talking about getting out the .50 caliber and take care of someone because they don't want you to continue to wreck the auction.

I rarely go into the chat rooms ( for the above reasons) but I do remember in past auctions & feature grower chats that Ken or John had the ability to "silence" those who were disruptive. It had a very positive response when it was done. When you got out of hand the phrase silenced was placed beside your name & you no longer had the ability to post.
Just a thought..........Paul

Matfox is receiving ALL the flack from what happened last night....it takes two! I would think that the more "adult" members of the community would have bitten their lower lip and not caved into the Matfox invitation. How quick some fired back! And my goodness, the "I'm telling Ken", "I'm telling Ken" posters! HA!!! Just like grade school.

In an otherwise boring and snail slow auction, I kinda liked the excitement!

OK, everyone beat up on Matfox and let's see how many Wallace seeds he recieves! It is terribly easy to create a $22 sacrificial lamb folks. Ease up on the Fox.

well you seem to think i was the problem you are wrong.

I told tom to to stop his cheering or what he was doing. Since he was not the auctioneer. Then several trouble makers such Dtm decided to start name calling. Besides my first bid for $2. All my bids where genuine.
So before condem you me. Relize this. As for auction the only posters should be bidders, those asking questions about the lots and the auctioneer(who name was highlighted in green).

Matfox,
I was in fact helping the auction (Tony, the auctioneer asked me) and for whatever reason, my color, Robs (littlebit) and Robert(dchico)color were not changed, if you would have listened for 2 mins you would have heard that I told you this repeatedly. You chose to be typical matfox, except this time you thought you were funny and crossed the line with you comment about pulling out a 50 caliber..
Plenty of witnesses this time matfox.

Matfox, as usual you have your facts mixed up. I told you to stop interupting when you told Tom (who was helping Tomy, Rpb and Robert with the auction) to shut up several times. At which time you told me to "crawl back under my rock" and "go find my sister" both typical WV hick stereotypes you like to throw around. After which I called you an idiot which IMHO you were acting like. In your posting here you prove once again you have your facts turned around or spun to make you look innocent. Just to let you know the auctioneer's name is blue in color not green.

Bids were in 5 Dollar increments Matfox. And I Tom and Doug were helping you should have never started.I have been here 2 years and havent known you to grow one pumpkin only thing you do is cause problems and make people mad. Most growers here love our chat and learning from each other all thats learned from you is chaos and problems.

robert In the last 2 year I grown 3 pumpkins plants are of which went boom or had the bore.
dtm it was not you place speach up as for.
Also you have a history of being a nasty so be an insulting me an others. as for the insult wv comments if hoe fit wear it.

tom he did not sound like he was helping.

robert if you want choas.
Real chaos would be 500 posts in each forum on every possible pumpkin related question in one day. That is real choas.

As for the auction i do not see the results listed yet.

ok...better throw in my 2 cents worth.....i have been to almost every auction on bp for the past 2 years...and this matfox has disturbed several of them with he chatter and disrespectful bids....Tony did wonderful job and nearly without any help...Glen was helping and Tom started helping after the first few lots........tom's information helped Tony with prodigy to help get fair market value....i have not chatted much with matfox, but i do know his comments during this fundraiser was not only disturbing, but uncalled for and rude........not sure why, but i just shows the type of character he has and i feel sorry for anyone who would associate with someone of this character...

Listen, I was out of town visiting relatives over Thanksgiving. Because of this I was only able to setup the "auctioneer color" for Tony ahead of time. Had I been in town and I knew Tom was helping out I would have changed his color as well. I am going through the logs of the auction now and it is pretty ridiculous. The title of this thread asks a great question. Mat, are you the defender of the auction? Really? Your posts in the chat room border on threats. If you have a problem, take it up with me via email.

I am amazed at this debacle, especially as most others have put it, "auctions up until this year have been very fun and helpful to all involved". Matfox was helpful to me in the past, but I too agree that he is not assigned as defender of what is right and wrong in an auction chat room. I have run over a dozen auctions for the PGPGA Barb Kincaid, raffles, etc. Never a problem. Lets just act like adults and move on.

Remember, it is the winter months and the hostility is always in the posts, but leave the fundraising auction chat rooms to the people running it and the bidders. Viewing is allowed, but please type your bids on the board and that is all. The banter should be saved for another time.

Happy Holidays! 8-)

Last year, as a nu-B to this site, I was a bit confused at my first auction. Had no idea that there were designated auction "helpers", and after reading the request that no "chat" other than bids should occur, I thought some folks were breaking the rules...live and learn I guess. Would prbly be helpful for others, if the auction "helpers" were listed at the start. Peace, Wayne

what would help is auction helpers added auction helper to there screen names.

Ken,
I am sorry you have to deal with this nonsense. This shouldnt even be an issue that you have to deal with. The adults do a good job dealing with the young ones, but unfortunately in this case you gotta step in, waste your time, review the dumb transcripts, and decide how to deal with this crap. I am really sorry that a few waste so much of your time and cant seem to help make your life easier. Simply rediculous.
