I know it's still a ways off but just a reminder to all the folks here that may be thinking about the Niagara seminar this spring, don't forget about the new passport regulations. Below is the attachment I recieved from my Dept of Homeland defense "friends".

Effective January 23, 2007, all persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid U.S. passport.

As early as January 1, 2008, all persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda by land or sea (including ferries), may be required to present a valid U.S. passport or other documents as determined by the Department of Homeland Security.

The lines and waits could be long don't hold off to late wouldn't want it to become a problem in March!!

my guess is that they will back off the land travel requirements by the 2008 deadline, or switch to some alternative that has been discussed.

if not, 2007 may be my last trip across the border for quite some time. just too expensive when you add it all up.

most united states post offices will be able to take your photo and process your pass port.

you need to bring your birth certificate and one other form of picture identification.

thats where we got ours. it cost a couple more bucks at the post office but its better cause you only need to stop at one place.

keep in mind it takes 6 weeks or so at times to get it back

You might not need it to come into Canada, but you'll sure need it to get back into the US, especially if you got a wet towel wrapped around your head from all the heavy drinking the night before. Just kidding about the last part. Nobody drinks in Niagara, do they?

If people are coming by plane, I suppose you could fly into Buffalo and drive across the border if you don't want to get a passport. Of course, you'd still need one by next year.

Sorry Eddy, but I didn't want any of my tipsy pumpkin buddies to be mistaken as terrorist while crossing back across the border. Put a block of cheese on your head instead of the towel & you won't have to worry about the border guards. They'll just think that they are Packers fans that got lost coming home from the game, again.

LOL. Good idea, Dan. The border guards couldn't refuse a good American lad with cheese on their head.
