I was wondering about this. I have trouble keeping a very small 12 x18 tomato hut below 100! Multiple misters and multiple layers of shade and the skirting raised and it still easily hits 90+ degrees. Its cool that you are measuring, learning & sharing results with us...

Just so everyone else understands, we are in a cooler marine climate but we can get very clear days with very intense sun. Some recent days were some of the clearest & most intense days (good air quality, no haze, smoke, excess humidity or clouds whatsoever) and this increases the direct heating power of the sun. The light intensity is very high on these ultra clear days and I think the plants can easily get what they need even at 50% shade. Just some thoughts, sorry to add excessive commentary Dave but I think you are on to something important!

Cool! I wonder if this will also help keep the heat in at night like a blanket? You could add another one in the open area to the South as you have had success with the first one.

I've added another piece of shadecloth to the other side of of the roof. It's lowered the temps perfectly. So much so that I've turned the misters off totally. I was worried about the 50% cloth blocking too much light but weight gains have stayed constant.
