How far up the stem towards the vine have you sliced? Best of luck with it Dave, you've had success with the method we learned.

I've had some luck cutting the stem, with the grain, back towards the vine.

Parallel cuts, imho. But... hard to know what if anything will help!

Just as you were helping one of our growers down here yesterday! What a coincidence.
Good luck Dave!

What Andy says works. And you wont notice a decrease in gains. At the very least, keep a close eye on how deep its getting into the pumpkin.

Agree with stem cut toward the vine first, then relieve any remaining pressure by extending the split a little further before making a cross cut. A cross cut can only stop the split from extending if the pressure is relieved. Lots of air and keep it dry. Fingers crossed!!!
