Hi, my main vine is now at maybe 10ft, I have notice another vine growing rather very quickly from the base of the plant, it is about 3 times the size of the main vine, as in wide and flat. Should i be removing this vine from the plant all together as it isn't like any of the other vines, or should i let it run and see how it looks compared to the main vine in about a week or two?

Sounds like a ribbon vine. They are no good, as they easily kink and split. I would get rid of it before it robs too much energy from your plant.

I have never heard of anyone growing a big one one a ribbon vine. I would also remove it.

Hey bluesilver what part of Aus are you in?
The only flat vine I've had like that has been a secondary that split open all the way and turned flat.

Hi SuperDave, from Tasmania, I decided to remove it, just to be on the safe side, no splits or anything, just flat vine and seamed to be growing fast

Had one start off with a ribbon for it's main vine last year. It grew out of it into 3 main vines. Had lost my main plants I was counting on by this time so decided to let it go to see what would happen (wanted to make sure I has something for the kids) instead of pruning down to one vine. Let one 'kin set on each vine. Ended up with a 400 lb and 2 300 lb 'kins. Don't know how big one would have gotten if I would have pruned to one vine.
