Those are deep! I think this is the same problem the pumpkin growers get. I think it is a nutrient issue. Copper, boron, potassium? Eenee meenee mine-e moe... I wish I was smart enough to know.
$50 lab test on leaves = some answers, unless someone else can chime in about it.

Ya it was really weird. The community group sprung for some raised beds and dirt for the neighborhood for free. I had one last sickly sprout that I didn't give away and my wife rescued it from the trash and planted it. It was way slow start and I dismissed it but eventually it went nuts. This is how I know my dirt is junk and needs nuked and start over.

The dirt they brought in from who knows where seems great but if that is a nutrition issue it might be missing one of the main components
