Plants world do so much better if no weeds.
Weedwhacker or mower & weed fabric? I think unless you are fertigating 24/7 that canary grass etc will not allow your plant to get enough nutrients. I'm using white weed fabric, but putting mulch over it to block the light until the weed are dead.

You deserve a pumpkin after all the work you've put in!

So I mow it down? If 8 put the weed fabric how do I bury nodes? If I mow it down they come back. Should I just keep 3-4' distance between weeds and plant

Yeah that's the thing about weeds and pumpkins especially the perennial weeds with rhizomes. They're like the tide, its hard to stop em. I mean, I did have a plant that produced a 400 lber that was surrounded by that level of weed or worse. I think you'll have to foliar feed... or provide a big nutrient source. I did a bit of both. When you mow, set the blade to the lowest setting so you grind em into the ground as much as possible. It will only slow them for a week, they'll be back up again soon, but it will give the pumpkin plant a needed break. Maybe someone can help you with that so you can focus on the vine burying and the weeds under the canopy. Ps the 400 lber I grew had some rotten piles of hay for nutrients. There has to be a some source of nutrients for the kin that will keep the plant fed & won't get totally depleted.

...Another nutrient source besides the soil, in lieu of the grass stealing the majority of the resources. Steve C. 's WR bushel gourd for example, he had a compost bin next to the base of his plant. I think this is a viable idea for how to be successful in your situation.

I'll cut them down to like 1 inch or lower with a machine that does owed than a mower
