Day 40 Blossom End Split Inspection (F:2287 Sadiq '22 x M: 2365 Wolf ’21 (from Ron Wallace))
Carefully cutting the actual area of pumpkin integrity failure and putting a tape measure on the area, it can be determined that the walls of the pumpkin were about 2.5” (6.32cm) thick. So, while this may be the thinnest part seen on the structure, it is still surprising that this was still the point of failure.
One positive is that is split on Day 40 (July 14th) rather than later in the season so a cover crop can be established and other non-pumpkin tasks can be focused on for the rest of the year.
